Crossing Lake Arenal into the Cloud Forest
A Scenic Journey to Monteverde
Today you will leave the volcanic landscapes of Arenal behind and embark on one of Costa Rica’s most scenic transfers: the journey across Lake Arenal toward the mystical cloud forests of Monteverde. Instead of a traditional road transfer, you will enjoy a private boat crossing across Lake Arenal, Costa Rica’s largest lake. This peaceful journey provides spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, tropical landscapes, and, weather permitting, the impressive silhouette of Arenal Volcano. The transition from the warm lowlands into the cooler mountain environment of Monteverde reveals one of Costa Rica’s most fascinating ecological transformations. As elevation increases, the landscape changes dramatically, giving way to cloudcovered forests where moisture, wind, and altitude create a unique ecosystem found in very few places on Earth. Upon arrival in Monteverde, you will settle into your hotel and later experience one of the region’s most fascinating activities: a guided night walk. As darkness falls, the forest awakens in a completely different way. Equipped with flashlights and accompanied by expert guides, you will explore the rainforest trails in search of nocturnal species. Frogs, insects, reptiles, and occasionally mammals become active after sunset, offering a completely different perspective of the cloud forest. This experience reveals that the rainforest is not only alive during the day—the night brings an entirely new world of discovery.
Day 8 | July 13, 2028 (B)
Into the Mystical Cloud Forest
Sky Tram & The Children’s Eternal Rainforest
Monteverde is one of Costa Rica’s most extraordinary ecosystems. Today’s exploration begins with the Sky Tram experience, offering a unique opportunity to appreciate the cloud forest from above. As the tram gently ascends through the forest canopy, you will enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains while observing the complex structure of this remarkable ecosystem. The experience provides a different perspective of the forest, revealing how plants, trees, and wildlife are interconnected in this unique environment. Later, continue your exploration at the Children’s Eternal Rainforest, Central America’s largest private protected reserve. Created through an international conservation effort inspired by children around the world, this reserve protects thousands of hectares of pristine cloud forest habitat. During your visit, you will discover the importance of private conservation initiatives and learn how protecting these forests contributes to global biodiversity preservation. The reserve is home to an extraordinary variety of wildlife, including hundreds of bird species, mammals, amphibians, and countless plants adapted to the cloud forest environment.
