Iceland & the Northern Lights

Diva Destinations has just had the most amazing time on our hosted group holiday to Iceland, the land of Fire & Ice. We had a whirlwind visit but managed to see the most iconic waterfalls, glaciers, Geysers and of course the famous Blue Lagoon. These are the places that you only ever get to see in pictures. We have to say those pictures DO NOT do them justice. SEEING really is BELIEVING! That's why we're doing it all over again in 2024! Read on....

Geothermal hot springs

Iceland is a land of contrasts, where glaciers and geothermal hot springs coexist in perfect harmony. On our Diva Destinations trip to Iceland, you'll have the opportunity to experience it all. From the buzzing capital city of Reykjavik to the serene countryside, this trip is an adventure like no other. We'll start our journey in Reykjavik, a vibrant and colorful city that's bursting with culture and history. We'll explore the city's charming streets and alleyways, sample the local cuisine, and discover what really makes Reykjavik so special.

Reykjavik

But it's not just the city that we'll be exploring. Iceland is home to some of the most stunning natural landscapes on the planet, and we'll be immersing ourselves in all that this country has to offer. We'll hike through the rugged terrain of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, soak in the warm waters of the Blue Lagoon, and explore the incredible glacial ice caves that are found only in this part of the world. And of course, we'll have the chance to (hopefully) see the Northern Lights in all their glory. We'll venture out into the countryside, away from the city lights, and witness one of the most awe-inspiring natural phenomena on the planet. It's an experience that's truly magical and will stay with you for a lifetime. Throughout the trip, you'll be surrounded by a community of like-minded LGBTQ+ women who share your love of adventure and exploration. Our trips are inclusive and welcoming, so whether you're traveling solo or with a partner or friends, you'll feel right at home. Don't miss out on this unforgettable adventure to Iceland with Diva Destinations. Book your spot today and get ready to experience the wonders of this incredible country!

HOW THEY MEASURE THE NORTHERN LIGHTS AND WHEN IS THERE A GOOD CHANCE YOU MIGHT SEE THEM?

The KP-index is a scale which defines the strength of the Northern Lights activity for a certain time frame. The scale has a range of 0 to 9, with 9 meaning a strong Aurora and 0 meaning a weak.
The intensity, (brightness), of Northern Lights is measured on this KP scale. About 90% of nights in a typical season would have a KP index of between 1-4, with the remainder of nights hitting what are called Geomagnetic storm level. Things get very exciting when there is a KP 5, (or Geomagnetic storm level 1), and above. It is so bright that this intensity of storm can be seen as far south as Stockholm or the northern parts of Scotland and will result in much stronger displays. At KP = 0 you would need to be near the very top of Europe to see them. For every increase in level you can add around 350kms to the southern tip of the range for seeing them. So at a KP1-3 when we mention ‘average night’ this would mean that there are chances of seeing the Northern Lights across the whole of the Arctic region of Sweden, Norway, Finland as well as Iceland.
