These Rothschilds giraffe are endangered and live on the sanctuary for their protection. After our visit here we will be transferred to The Sheldrick Wildlife trust, a delightful elephant orphanage where you encounter the rescued wildlife and learn about their journey back to living free and meet their care givers. A transfer is included back to our hotel in time for lunch. After lunch we have entry to the Karen Blixen Musuem, the Danish Author known for her memoir Out of Africa. The 100-year-old farmhouse where Karen Blixen lived and ran a coffee plantation is now a preserved museum, offering a glimpse into Kenya's colonial history through artifacts, books, and furniture that belonged to Blixen. It is a prized destination because it connects visitors to Kenya's past, from colonialism to independence, and the grounds feature original farm equipment. We will have the remainder of the day at leisure before taking our group meal in a local restaurant.

    Day 3 | 27th January 2027 Samburu & Shaba Safari (B,D)

After an early breakfast, we will be met by our private driver/guides in 4 x 4 safari vehicles with panoramic pop-up roofs. These will accompany us throughout our safari and game drives until we fly to the mighty Masai Mara on the 1st February. An afternoon game drive is included and we will return to your camp as the sun sets, in time for dinner. The rare wildlife adapted to this harsh environment includes Reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, generuk, Somali ostrich and Beisa oryx. The birdlife is marvellous, with over 380 recorded species. Running through Samburu and bordered by a permanent ribbon of green, the Ewaso Nyiro River is the lifeblood of the ecosystem, drawing large herds of elephant and lion to the banks.

The Masai Mara is legendary as the setting for the spectacular annual Great Migration: in July and August, over a million wildebeest and zebra brave the crocodiles of the Mara River to reach the fresh grasses of the savannah – where they are hunted by predators like lion, cheetah, leopard and hyena. Throughout the year, the Mara offers the most diverse wildlife in Kenya. Here you will encounter animals in the huge numbers similar to those found in the 19th century. Permanent rivers sustain wildlife through the dry seasons. The riverine forest around the Mara River supports elephant and giraffe. The abundant plains game attracts prides of lion, cheetah, leopard, hyena, jackal and the smaller nocturnal cats. Over 500 bird species – including 53 birds of prey - have been recorded in the Mara’s varied landscapes.

    Day 9 | 2nd February 2027 (B,L,D)

3 game drives are included today, the first at sunrise, returning for breakfast, then at 10:30 am, departing again to return in time for lunch. After lunch your afternoon game drive will depart at 3:30pm, and return in time at sunset.

    Day 10 | 3rd February 2027 (B,D)

After a leisurely breakfast, we will be transferrd to the nearby airstrip in time for our light aircraft flight to Nairobi's Wilson Airport. This will be on Governors Aviation to depart at 11 am and arrive at 12noon. The luggage allowance for this flight is limited to 20 kgs per person in soft sided bags only (including hand luggage). Upon arrival into Nairobi, we will be transferred back to Fairmont The Norfolk Hotel. We will take our farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

    Day 11 | 4th February 2027 (B)

Today we say our fond farewells before departing on our journeys home. We hope you have enjoyed your African Safari adventure with your fellow Diva Adventurers.

  • 3 nights Nairobi (2 nights on arrival, 1 night on our departure). Nairobi is the capital and the largest city in Kenya. Located in the highlands at an elevation of about 1,795 meters, it is known for its unique position as the world's only capital city with a national park inside its boundaries, Nairobi National Park. The city is a blend of modern and traditional culture, offering vibrant markets, nightlife, and a gateway to wildlife experiences. Here we take a visit to Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and the Giraffe Centre, critical to the continued survival of the endangered Rothschild giraffe. There is also the Karen Blixen Museum - a must when visiting Nairobi.

3 nights Samburu & Shaba National Reserves This offers a unique, uncrowded experience in Kenya’s arid northern frontier, known for its dramatic landscapes and specific wildife species not found anywhere else. The Samburu National Reserve is located in the Samburu District, North of the Equator, at an altitude ranging from 800 to 1,230 meters above sea level and it covers an area of about 165-square kilometers, equivalent to 64 sq miles. The reserve is part of a much larger eco system which includes the bordering Buffalo Springs and Shaba National Reserves. Buffalo Springs covers an area of approximately 131sq km and Shaba covers an area of approximately 239sq km. Samburu is characterized by a desert and semi-desert region with a dry and warm climate; the Southern border of the reserve is demarcated by the Ewaso Nyiro River, that is the only permanent source of water in this protected area, even during the dry season; from this river depends the survival of all the animals in the reserve.
The two major rainfall seasons typical to Kenya also loosely apply to Samburu, with the months from April to May and September to November seeing brief rainly spells nonetheless accompanied by hours of sunshine.

2 nights in Rift Valley Lakes. These are a series of lakes in the East African Rift Valley, formed in the depressions created by the valley’s tectonic rifting. Lake Elementaita is an alklaline, soda lake located between Lake Naivasha and Lake Nakuru. The lake is a crucial feeding ground for large numbers of flamingos and a nesting and breeding site for great white pelicans. The surrounding conservancy is also home to a variety of mammals, including Zebras, Gazelles, and Rothschild's giraffes. Much of the lake and its surroundings are protected as the Soysambu Conservancy. Historically, Lake Elementaita, Lake Nakuru, and Lake Bogoria were a single, large freshwater lake that split as it dried up.

2 nights Masai Mara Game Reserve This is a large national game reserve in Kenya, its famous ecosystem has the highest density of wildlife in Kenya. The reserve is one of the best places in Africa for a safari and is home to a wide variety of animals, including the "Big Five" (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino, and Buffalo). The name "Mara" comes from the Maasai language, meaning "spotted," a reference to the scattered acacia trees that dot the landscape.

Wildlife: The reserve boasts a year-round population of animals, including large herds of wildebeest and Zebras, Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, Elephants, and Rhinos.

Great Migration:  The Maasai Mara is most famous for hosting one of the world's greatest wildlife spectacles, the Great Migration. Millions of wildebeest, zebras, and Gazelles travel from the Serengeti to the Mara to graze on the grasslands.

Significance: It is one of the most popular and best-known wildlife destinations in Africa, celebrated for its rich biodiversity and as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
